Thank you to everyone who responded and called their representative! Because of your action, they were able to reach the 218 signatures needed for the discharge petition to force a vote in the H.S. House of Representatives on the bipartisan legislation known as  The Social Security Fairness Act, which would eliminate both the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). These two provisions unfairly reduce or eliminate earned Social Security benefits for approximately 2.8 million Americans who’ve devoted much of their careers to public service-including police officers, firefighters, educators and federal, state and local government employees.  

Now that the discharge petition has 218 signatures, it will sit on the U.S. House Calendar for seven legislative days. After that period, the speaker will schedule the Social Security Fairness Act for a vote before the full U.S. House of Representatives. According to U.S. House rules, a vote will be scheduled within two legislative days.  

Pension Warriors, our job is not done yet! We need to call your House Representative, even if your state doesn’t have these draconian rules! They all get a vote! Tell them to pass H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act.
