๐จ Urgent: Senate Bill Would Ban State AI Protections for 10 Years
The Senate reconciliation bill currently includes a provision that would prohibit states from regulating artificial intelligence (AI) for ten years. This sweeping moratorium would prevent state oversight of AI applications in:
- Autonomous vehicles
- Worker surveillance and monitoring
- Hiring and employment decisions
- Online content moderation and more
This federal overreach threatens to halt the progress made by Teamsters, community organizations, and advocacy groups that have worked alongside state legislators to ensure AI deployment is ethical, transparent, and safe.
States Are Already Acting โ This Bill Would Undo That Progress
Across the country, states have already enacted AI protections to:
- Safeguard children from online exploitation
- Defend against deepfake abuse and likeness theft
- Preserve copyrighted material
- Protect workers from displacement and discrimination
If passed as written, this bill would erase those critical safeguards and undermine ongoing efforts to ensure responsible AI use.
๐ Take Action Now
We must not allow this AI state regulation ban to make it into law.
๐ Click here to send an email to your Senator and demand they:
- Oppose the state AI moratorium
- Support an amendment to remove it from the reconciliation bill
Letโs ensure the final reconciliation bill that reaches the Presidentโs desk respects the rights of states and the workers, families, and communities they protect.
In Solidarity,
